Bauxite

Sibelco PORTALUM calcined bauxite (aluminium oxide) is produced from Refractory Agglomerated Super Calcined (RASC) bauxite. The main constituent is the mineral corundum.

PORTALUM calcined bauxite can be characterised by: 

• high inertness in various media
• high Mohs hardness of 8.5
• high refractive index of 1.64
• high density and low oil absorption

The addition of PORTALUM enhances abrasion and chemical resistance in coatings, whilst its high hardness and density are valued in abrasive / friction applications such as brake pads.
