Sibelco unveils enhanced sustainability strategy

Sibelco today published a new document detailing the framework through which the company proactively manages the environmental, social and governance impacts of its global operations.

Sibelco’s sustainability strategy was recently updated following a scheduled exercise to revisit the results of a comprehensive 14-month materiality assessment originally conducted in 2019-20. The review led to development of an updated sustainability model (left) together with an ambitious set of goals to be achieved by 2030.

Built around Sibelco’s purpose - material solutions advancing life – the updated sustainability strategy contributes to eleven of the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“In a rapidly changing environment, it is essential that we proactively manage the environmental and social impacts of our activities within a strong governance structure,” explains
Cathy Blervacq, Sibelco VP Sustainability.
“Sustainability has always been key to our local operations, and in recent years we have developed a global framework within which all of our sites now operate. Our revised strategy represents the next step on our journey to leadership in sustainability.”

“Sibelco operates in a complex environment across multiple markets and geographies. Driven by clearly defined priorities, our sustainability strategy is ensuring that we always balance environmental, societal and economic needs.”

Hilmar Rode

Sibelco CEO

As part of the enhanced sustainability framework, Sibelco has published a new
which outlines the company’s approach to energy and GHG emissions reduction. The report sets out reduction targets which were validated by the
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
in November 2022.

Sibelco will report on progress against all of its 2030 sustainability goals each year as part of the company’s integrated annual report.
